Supporting Mobility Through Policy Research

ITNAmerica is a national resource on transportation and aging, with decades of experience advancing policy, practice, and research to strengthen mobility for older adults and people with mobility challenges. Our work explores how transportation systems intersect with community planning, public health, and the responsible use of private and public resources.

The ITNAmerica Knowledge Center makes our research and insights available to students, policymakers, researchers, and families across the country. From early policy work in Maine to national efforts shaping legislation, ITNAmerica supports evidence-based solutions that expand access to community-based transportation.

The 50 State Policy Project

With a full understanding of the interconnected relationship between policy, practice, resources, and technology, ITNAmerica launched a multi-year initiative to examine transportation laws across all 50 states. This project focuses on identifying policies that either create incentives or remove barriers to using private resources—such as volunteer drivers and shared vehicles—to support sustainable mobility for older adults.

ITNAmerica is currently working with legal and policy professionals to complete the 50 State Policy Database. Once published, the database will serve as a practical resource for policymakers, researchers, and community advocates. Check back soon for updates.
